Growing Your Leadership: Emotional Intelligence for Dentists

This session is FREE for VDA Members
Date/Time:
Wednesday, June 3rd, 1:00-2:15 PM  Eastern Time (US & Canada)
$49.00
Register
Description:

While dentists typically possess the technical skills and knowledge needed to succeed, exceptional dentists have a secret ingredient that sets them apart: Emotional Intelligence. Emotional Intelligence, often referred to as EI or EQ, is our ability to recognize our own feelings and those of others, and to manage our emotions and relationships.

Emotional Intelligence is the foundation for successful relationships with patients, peers, and staff, as well as impactful leadership. Strong emotional intelligence is associated with better decision-making and ability to deal effectively with change and stress. In this session, we’ll take an experiential tour of the four domains of EI, developing an understanding of each. Participants will identify examples of their EI strengths as well as exploring their capacity to grow their EI.

By participating in this course, you will be able to:
  • Identify key differences between traditional cognitive intelligence and emotional intelligence
  • Become familiar with the four basic competencies of emotional intelligence
  • Recognize emotional intelligence (both high and low EI) in your daily work life and life outside of work through behavioral examples
  • Develop a plan to improve at least one of your individual EI competencies

Participants must attend with a willingness to notice and reflect on themselves and their relationships. Dr. Deaton has no financial relationships relevant to this course to disclose.
