Joel Henderson

Joel B. Henderson is the Chair of the Humanities Department at Chattanooga State Community College in southeast Tennessee. He holds a Doctorate in American Literature from the University of Southern Mississippi and Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Harding University.  Henderson is a twenty-year veteran of community college English instruction and has taught at two-year institutions in Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee. He is the creator of Chattanooga State’s award-winning Writers@Work program, which invites southern writers to form a unique, weeklong on-campus partnership with students in the College’s first-year writing program.  Henderson is the co-founder of the Two-Year College English Association of Tennessee (TYCAT), which celebrates its ten-year anniversary next year.  He is a frequent presenter at regional conferences such as TYCA-SE and SAMLA on topics including nineteenth-century American literature, common book programs in the first-year composition classroom, and instructional best practices.     [ Click for More ]
