Laraine Fleming

Laraine Flemming is the author of a three-book developmental reading series that includes Reading Keys, Reading for Results, and Reading for Thinking published by Cengage Learning. She is also the author of a textbook on writing called Making Your Point. During her 25 years in the classroom, Laraine taught both college reading and writing. She also taught a wide range of students, from elementary to college, and a variety of subjects, from developmental reading to American literature and study skills.

Certified in secondary reading, she also has a Masters in Victorian literature and a Ph.D. in American literature. Currently, both her research and her textbooks focus on the role of inferences in reading, making connections between reading and writing instruction, and developing exercises based on Walter Kintsch’s constructive-integration model of reading, a theory which provides the basis for the Common Core Standards.
