Michael Z. Murphy

Michael Z Murphy, having taught every grade from 6 to graduate school, is a retired urban educator who now is assistant professor in the Department of English/Fine Arts/Modern Languages/Communications at Union County College in New Jersey where he teaches various communication classes. He holds both a B.A. and M.A. from Montclair State College (now University) with a double major in Speech Communication and Theatre. There he recently taught a course entitled Listening in the Department of Communication Studies. He is co-author of two poetry chapbook and several produced plays. In his many lives he has worked as an actor, director and stage manager. He is a Dodge Poetry Festival Assistant as well as a certified massage therapist. Recently he was named a Best Practices Fellow by Arts Horizons and the Artist-Teacher Institute. He is a life member of the International Listening Association where at its most recent convention he presented a workshop entitled “INTO ADULTHOOD: Transforming Yourself via Perception Checks, Praise & Constructive Criticism” and made a best practices presentation to Albuquerque teachers and health professionals on listening.     [ Click for More ]
