Matias Manzano

Matias Manzano grew up in Queens, New York City, and attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and minored in both Latin American and Caribbean Studies and Hispanic Languages and Literature. He served as the president of the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations as a member of Phi Iota Alpha fraternity. He also founded and served as the president of the Student Organization for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. He was the recipient of the dialogues across differences grant, the Center for Latin American Studies leadership award, and the student activities award for outstanding leadership. He also volunteered at a community organization in Long Island fighting for the rights of undocumented immigrant day laborers. Matias is currently a third year teacher at Jose de Diego Middle School. He joined the Jose de Diego team after applying to join Teach for America, a non-profit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by placing highly successful college graduates in the most deserving schools.     [ Click for More ]
