Stories are a way we connect with each other and to the world around us, and writing and telling stories can make those connections more personal and meaningful. Online cooperative storytelling can help reluctant writers work together, gain confidence, and see writing not as a chore but as a powerful tool to help them make connections to each other, to their new environment and to the new information they encounter everyday. In this session, attendees will learn how to help students participate in online cooperative storytelling through thematic blogs inspired by NPR’s This American Life, narratives in Google Maps, and cooperative ethnographic writing using Google Docs. (Attendees will actively participate in brainstorming, share stories, and receive links to online examples and handouts of sample assignments).
