According to Ken and Yetta Goodman’s research and experience, learning to read “ought not to be very much more difficult than the process by which one learns the oral mode of language.” By providing the same principals of relevance, meaningfulness, and motivation for communication inherent in the learning or oral language, this session explores the structure of Goodman’s reading strategies lessons for three types of readers: inefficient, inconsistent, and proficient.
