Developing college writers have difficulty finding the motivation to succeed. According to educational psychologists, for learning to occur most effectively, the physical, cognitive, and affective domains must all be considered. The successful transition to college is especially difficult for students in basic skills courses. Instructors can motivate these students to want to learn by placing importance on developing both the students’ cognitive and affective domains by building their self-efficacy and helping them to become selfregulated learners.
