Based on Rita Smilkstein’s research into the Natural Human Learning Process (NHLP), this session will describe what happens in the brain during learning, including how the brain develops biologically as well as cognitively. Discussion will focus on how we can best use and teach this fascinating information to students in composition as well as other courses. Understanding the NHLP teaches students how to learn anything they are motivated to learn.
