In The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, the speaker asks himself and readers a fundamental question: “And how should I begin?” This reveals a reoccurring obstacle that many student writers face for assigned writing tasks. This session will show five practical ways students can write effective openings—from personal expressive essays to documented argument essays. In addition, participants will walk away with a surefire handout to assist students in writing interesting and targeted essay titles.
