Active learning can take on many forms in the composition classroom. From small group sessions to full-class discussions, writing and reading are always at the heart of the composition course. By using Socratic questioning as an active learning strategy, we add an additional layer of authenticity to the study of writing. In this session, we will explore Socratic questioning as a means to expose students to effective writing, while promoting critical reading skills. Participants will leave with several lesson ideas, handouts, and best practices for the seminar-style classroom.
