Nicola Ferralis

Nicola Ferralis is a research scientist in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT. A native of Italy, he holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Physics from the University of Padua and a PhD in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics with distinction from Penn State University, where he was a National Science Foundation Fellow in Graduate Research and Education. While a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Integrated Nanomechanical Systems at UC Berkeley, he developed novel spectroscopic techniques to probe thermal and mechanical materials properties at the nanoscale. He is currently leading several experimental research projects in the development of novel materials and technologies for the next generation of energy systems. He authored more than 40 scientific publications and one patent.
