CC4.05 - Flexural Behavior of p-Type Half-Heusler Thermoelectric Material

The p-type half-Heusler thermoelectric(TE) material, Hf0.44Zr0.44Ti0.12CoSb0.8Sn0.2 exhibits a peak ZT of ~1 at ~800°C. In addition, previous nanoindentation studies predict a more robust mechanical behavior of this compound in comparison to other TE materials. Sample preparation involves arc-melting, high energy ball-milling and uniaxial hot-pressing. Here we report the flexural strength and fracture toughness of the half-Heusler through 800°C. Based upon the findings, the thermal shock resistance of the material is also quantified.
