Kara Carnes Holt, PhD

Kara Carnes-Holt is assistant professor of counseling at the University of Wyoming and the director of the Rocky Mountain Center of Play Therapy Studies. Kara's career in mental health counseling has included working in preschool therapeutic day treatment, school-based counseling, child and adolescent residential treatment centers, and university-based counseling centers. I completed my dissertation work at the University of North Texas where I had the amazing opportunity to study play therapy, which continues to be my passion. My research focus is in the area of play therapy and expressive art interventions that utilize the therapeutic relationship as the primary and foundational agent of change for at-risk children, adolescents, and their families. Specifically, I have a personal and professional passion to support and advocate for children in the foster care system and adoptive families.
