This session will address the issues, successes, and failures of managing construction projects and risks while achieving institutional objectives. Using real construction project case studies, we will highlight the financial and organizational impact of good and bad project control programs. Participate in an interactive SWOT analysis of construction projects that begin at pre-construction and go through final walk-through, including: planning and material take off, billing and receivables, change order controls, and owner communication.

Learning Objectives:
  • Learn how to identify and mitigate the weaknesses in a project management control systems that lead to margin erosion, inefficient delivery, and escalated project risk.
  • Learn to evaluate the project controls environment to identify project roles and responsibilities, skills and capacity issues, and potential project risks.
  • Understand how to identify risk mitigating and financial project controls.
  • Learn collaboration strategies that integrate corporate’s risk mitigation objectives with operations project controls environment.
  • Apply strategies and controls to real construction projects and then observe the actual results.
