An effective Construction Financial Manager (CFM) needs to have a thorough understanding of the information technology being utilized at their company. The purpose of this course is to provide the CFM with an overview of the many aspects of the IT function, and where they can turn to for assistance in making sure the company is fully utilizing the most appropriate technology in every aspect of its business as well as properly managing its risks. This course will address the importance of collaboration between departments, effective network administration, and the various types of hardware and software most utilized by the industry.

After this session, you will be able to:
  • State the best practices for construction software selection and implementation
  • Discuss the types of software utilized by or available to the different departments within the company, and how it can be integrated
  • Assess the various aspects of proper network administration; including hardware selection, internet connections, security, backup systems, and a disaster recovery plan
  • Identify the various tools available for an effective IT system, such as laptops, tablets, smart phones, scanners, printers, etc.
  • Evaluate outside IT support firms and determine which IT functions to outsource vs. which should be handled in-house and by whom
