Dialysis Complications: A Computer Assisted Learning Module

Provided by: Hazel Dennison, MSN, RN, APNc

This interactive educational activity is part of a doctoral study utilizing computer assisted learning (CAL). This educational activity includes interactive sessions to assist the learner to gain knowledge of the subject being studied. Dialysis complications can be commonplace, such as hypotension or infrequently seen by the nephrology professional, such as air embolism or hemolysis. Confidence in the causes of these complications, knowledge of assessment findings and interventions can provide for improved outcomes. Application of each of the seven complications (hypoxemia, hypotension, cramping, pyrogenic reactions, dialysis disequilibrium, air embolism and hemolysis) to a patient scenario provides for reinforcement of the CAL.
