Dialysis Technician Education Package from 2014 National Symposium
$100.00
Purchase
Member Price:
$50.00

This package focuses on a variety of problems faced in nephrology every day. First, we have two elements that both focus on our technologically advanced environment - alarm fatigue and the liability of making friends. Do we always "hear" our alarms -we get so used to the sounds, that they become background noise to us -and that can be a patient safety concern. Liability of making friends deals with issues surrounding us in the Facebook environment -should we be friends with patients ? What if they ask us something, how to do we answer and not breech confidentiality? Cardiac stunning and Uremic pruritis - are two clinically focused sessions -the first that really will provide some thought into what happens physiologically to the patient when we "push that button" -the second, are there newer methods that we can use to help our patients and decrease some of the uncomfortable itching that occurs in dialysis patients. The last session in this package deals with our veterans - understanding what they went through, and how we can best improve their well being -coming home -and coming to dialysis.

This package focuses on a variety of problems faced in nephrology every day and some that may improve our ability to care for our patients. Telehealth- is coming to dialysis –what will it mean to us and how can it improve the quality of care that the patient receives? A session entitled “rethinking renal” relates an interdisciplinary approach at patient management that includes the thoughts of the patient in the decision making process. Critical to dialysis, a session on water treatment and a session on self-care vascular access are both provided. The crowning session in this series deals with the frustrations, and the successes that are seen in the daily aspects of the care we provide to patients and the interactions between managers, patients and the care provider.

This package provides a broader perspective on dialysis services. It first considers the delivery of dialysis services in the United States and other countries, then focuses on the future of nephrology with a session on regenerative medicine, looks at how to improve access selection, and ends with a session on decreasing care provider stress. An International Aspects of how dialysis services are provided in other countries is very intriguing. It then builds upon that with a session on the Affordable care act-and changes that will impact dialysis services in the United States. The Regenerative medicine session links to aspects such as the field of “growing a kidney” from cells that can be used instead of dialysis. Aspects of access decision making –how to assist the patient in access choice is also discussed. Lastly, stress management for the individual caring for nephrology and dialysis patients is a very rewarding presentation that meets our needs as care providers.
