Sandra Liliana Oakes, MD is Associate Professor, Geriatric Division in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where she is also the Director of the Geriatric Fellowship Program. She is also a certified medical director. Dr Oakes earned her medical degree from the National University of Colombia in Bogota. She completed her residency and geriatric residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center. Dr Oakes has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the MACY Harvard Institute Scholar Award and was named one of the Top Physicians in San Antonio by the Scene San Antonio Monthly Magazine. She is also a member of several professional societies and is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and fellow of the American Geriatric Society. Her areas of interest include models of care in geriatric populations including LTC and hospital care. She is also interested in cultural competence in the care of older adults in acute settings and geriatric teaching tools and strategies in the primary care and interdisciplinary settings.
